It is fairly common in Japanese workplace culture to engage in group daily exercise sessions, though these sessions can be a little intense at times. It's still a good idea for all of us to stretch and keep fit, and Animal Crossing: New Horizons has a charming way for you to do so while playing the game.
What exactly is 'Group Stretching' in Animal Crossing: New Horizons and how does it work?
This is a new activity added to the game in version 2.0 that allows you to actively engage in some basic stretches and activities with a diverse group of islanders while playing the game.
It's very simple to activate this; all you have to do is interact with the stereo next to your residential services building (at the plaza) using the 'A' button and you'll be good to go.
Do you prefer to use motion controls, buttons, or a combination of the two? Which is preferable?
With the answer being "both," it appears that most players, regardless of preference or ability, should be able to take pleasure in the rather charming group stretching sequence.
Group stretching is controlled by a set of buttons.
If you don't want to actively move and exercise, this is the more convenient option, as it is more of a light-touch rhythm game than the other two. The majority of the exercises are performed with the left stick, either by pressing in one direction or rotating in another.
There is no specific goal; instead, it is all about attempting to keep up with the rest of the group's pace — you will notice some members of the group struggling to keep up with the rest of the group, which is amusing. You will also be required to use the 'A' and 'B' buttons at some point, so be prepared for that!
Group stretching is controlled by motion controls.
This is, without a doubt, the more active option, and the game recommends that you give yourself some breathing room, use the Joy-Con wrist-strap, and generally act responsibly. In order to play, you only need the appropriate Joy-Con, unless you're like us and trying to capture screenshots while playing!
This is the same routine that appears on screen, so it is relatively brief and focused primarily on stretching and rotation, though you can also walk on the spot to the beat like the characters in the film do. Another sequence near the end requires you to hop on the spot, and despite our attempts to 'cheat' by simply waving the Joy-Con, it didn't register until we actually did a hop ourselves.
The motion controls are generally effective, though they are not without flaws. Nonetheless, as a gentle stretch, it is a delightfully relaxing way to unwind.
Is it possible for me to bring friends?
Yes, if you have friends on your island, you (and only you) have the authority to initiate the group stretching session as you would normally do. You will need to be Best Friends with all of the other players in order to participate. They will then be teleported to the plaza where the activity will take place, and then teleported back to where they started.
What are the limitations of the system? Is there anything I can get for participating in group stretching? Is it necessary for me to stretch 'well'?
There don't appear to be any restrictions on how many times you can complete the exercise each day in the game, and you have the option of using button or motion controls each time. Of course, if you're playing with motion controls, you should pay attention to the game's warnings and carefully tailor your exercise to your abilities and limitations.
This is another mode in which there is no way to earn points; it is solely for entertainment purposes and to enjoy watching your character interact with other islanders. While participating in this activity, do not feel any pressure. In exchange for stretching, you will receive 150 ACNH Nook Miles Tickets, which will appear in your daily rewards on the Nook Miles application!
